Who we are

The Until Then Working Board is…

Dan and Kathleen Hamer

Dan & Kathleen Hamer helped launch the Orphan Care Initiative as volunteers at Saddleback Church where they were longtime members and Dan served as CFO. They recently moved to the Seattle area to launch the Orphan Care Initiative at Overlake Church where Dan is a Senior Associate Pastor. Kathleen has her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and brings a heart for street children that began six years ago with the adoption of a 5 ½ year old Kenyan street boy and his little brother.

Josh and Neely McQueen

Josh McQueen is a pastor on the Serve the World team (local and international outreach/missions) at Overlake Christian Church.  Josh has connected with street kids in several contexts including Seattle, Nairobi, Cape Town, and Addis Ababa.  He has been married to Neely, for over 12 years, and they have three beautiful, high-energy children Simeon, Bethlehem, and Jedidiah who are to blame for their big smiles and sleepy eyes.

Phil and Dalene Hamer

Phil and Dalene Hamer met in Kenya where they were working with street kids and quickly fell in love. Phil directed the documentary “Glue Boys“,  and they both have a passion for serving the needs of the oppressed, as well as telling stories of injustice to bring change. When they are not traveling the world and doing projects with Until Then, Phil works at ChopShop, a creative agency in Newport Beach, CA, as well as producing documentaries for his own production company Reason 4 Productions.  Dalene works at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Laguna Beach, CA.

Russ and Lisa Qualls

Russ and Lisa Qualls are the parents of eleven children ranging in age from 24 to four, including four children adopted from Ethiopia. Their eyes were opened to the orphan crisis in the spring of 2006 and their first three adopted children arrived home one year later. They returned to Ethiopia in July 2008 to bring home their oldest adopted daughter. With an MS and PhD in Hydrology from Cornell University, Russ is a professor of engineering at the University of Idaho as well as the State Climatologist for the state of Idaho. Russ uses his education and talent to bring clean water to the most vulnerable widows and orphans by directing Until Then’s well drilling projects. Lisa is a full-time mom who homeschools many of their children. She is passionate about orphans, street children, adoption, and children living with HIV. Lisa serves with From HIV to Home and writes the blog, A Bushel and A Peck where she explores issues related to adoption and family life. Together, Russ and Lisa serve adoptive and foster parents through the ministry Empowered to Connect.
